ENCAUSTICS –
A hot beeswax mixed with a resin that makes it archival and harder than paraffin wax candles. (Paraffin wax is a mixture of alkanes with a carbon number more than about 22. It is obtained from crude oil by distillation then purified by solvent refining).
I color the medium with powdered earth pigments (naturally occurring minerals containing metal oxides, principally iron oxides and manganese oxides, that have been used since prehistoric times as pigments. The primary types are ochre, sienna and umber). Because I love textures, you will notice embellishments, incising, embedding of objects like cloth, wood, feathers, string, etc., and other explorations I apply to create relief.
