Repoussé – [ruhpoosey] metalworking technique to raise relief on metal by hammering on the reverse side.
Chasing –  [chey-sing]: technique of embossing metal to indent and make texture on a metal surface.

There are two ways I begin a bowl. One is to purchase a pre-fabricated copper vessel. The other is to take a large piece of copper and begin to fashion it into a bowl. I prefer this way because I love the texture of hammered copper. First I cut a shape (circle,  oval, organic) then I anneal or heat the copper to soften it. I have large wood shapes that I place the copper in and begin to hammer to shape. As the copper gets harder, I anneal again, and continue hammering.
