One-on-One Cold Wax & Oil Workshop

Beginning again in April, 2023

Private sessions are designed to offer a stimulating learning environment that focuses on your interests and skill level.

Location: Osprey Studio, Mebane, NC
Date: Decided between you and me.
Cost: $300
Materials: Workshop fee includes two 12×12 and one 18X24 cradled boards, use of cold wax, oil paints, solvents, tools and various fabric and paper collage materials. Participant should consider purchasing cradled wood boards for more surfaces on which to work as several boards will be started and allowed to firm up for the second session. Green tape will be supplied for covering the sides for the  cradled boards you bring.

What will be covered:
• Materials needed to begin working in cold wax & oil.
• What type supports to use and how to prepare them.
• Embedding objects, fabric or paper into the painting.
• Inscribing and making texture.
• Sources for supplies.

Keurig is available for coffee.

SESSIONS

FIRST SESSION: 9 am-12 pm.  Discussion of materials needed, preparing surfaces and beginning of layering cold wax on the surfaces.
SECOND SESSION: 9 am-12 pm, break for lunch, 1 pm-3 pm. 
Continue working on boards, layering, inscribing, texturing, using solvents, tools and collage materials as the participant decides.
THIRD SESSION: 9 am-12 pm, break for lunch, 1 pm-3 pm.
Continue exploring the diversity of the cold wax medium using oil paint, pigment sticks, dried earth pigments and a variety of  techniques including collage. Then, how to finish the artwork for hanging in a gallery.
